2) I guess so.
"I guess so" is a kind of vague or weak agreement or even more than
weak agreement, it's like a lack of disagreement.

3) fall flat
There is another idiom that also means "fall flat" or "fail" and
that's "go over like a lead balloon." If you imagine a balloon made
of lead, it's not going to be very successful.

4) pantomime humor
"Pantomime humor" can also be called "slapstick," especially if it's
very physical and silly.

5) Puns and other wordplay don't translate well.
When you can't translate them.

6) I can remember watching a U.S. movie in a Japanese movie theater
many years ago. It was a comedy. And I went there with a friend of
mine. We often laughed at times other than the rest of the audience.
So I think either the jokes or the humor hadn't been translated or
the Japanese audience didn't find it as funny as we did.

7) sake
One point about the Japanese word "酒," in the U.S., people usually
pronounce it either "サキ" or "セァキ."

8) hara-kiri
That's another Japanese word that's pronounced in various ways in
the U.S. I think most people don't say "ハラキリ." They'll probably
say "ヘリケェリィ" or "ハラァキリィ" or something more like that.

The kind of joke that makes most people groan are called "groaners."

12) tricky
"Tricky" is used in many ways. Usually when it's describing a
person, it's rather negative. Former President Nixon in the U.S. had
a nickname "Tricky Dick," probably because his first name and
"trick" rhyme with each other. It wasn't a very positive way to
speak about him. But "tricky" can also mean "complex" and
"difficult." So you could talk about a tricky problem or some kind
of a tricky procedure that requires a lot of care and experience to
carry through properly.

昨夜は私のスクールに講師仲間が集まってきました。大学などで教え
ている人たちは夏休みに入ったので、休暇を利用してそれぞれの国
に帰ったり、旅行にいったりする前にみんなで集まろうということになっ
たのです。帰国ついでにヨーロッパを1ヵ月かけて旅行する人もいて、
こちらはいいなあ〜と羨ましがるだけでした。

あるアメリカ人が赤ちゃんを連れてきました。奥様は日本人。とーーー
ってもキュートな赤ちゃんでした。私に、「ベビーには日本語で話しかけ
ないでね。英語でお願い。」って言うんですね。家庭の外に出たら日本
語でいいんだと思い込んで欲しくないんだそうです。家以外でも英語で
話さなければいけない場所があるということ、日本人でも英語で話す人
たちがいることを教えたいんだそうです。
