1<J>: Welcome to the program, Ninobe-san. First off, what should we 
call you?

2<N>: Ah, please call me "Ninobe-san." That's fine.

3<J>: OK. That's what we'll do.

4<J>: Yeah, Ninobe-san, please tell us a little bit about your 
company. What does it do?

5<N>: Sure. Richemont Japan is a subsidiary of Richemont group, 
which is listed in the Zurich stock market.

6<J>: OK.

7<N>: The company's headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland.

8<J>: OK

9<N>: Ah.. This company manages and operates many luxury brands 
including Cartier, which is the largest, Dunhill, Chloe, Montblanc, 
etc., etc. The company designs, manufacture(s), produce(s) and 
distributes and sell(s) all those luxury brand products.

10<J>: I see. A lot of brands that I like, too, eh?

11<J>: That's a tough job, isn't it?

12<J>: Good point. Ninobe-san, you probably use English a lot on 
your job. It's basically European company. It sounds like you've got 
bases all over the place there. When do you use English on the job?

13<N>: I use English almost every day.

14<J>: Is that right? OK.

15<N>: Uh-huh. I use it, for example, when I speak with my boss and 
colleagues, I speak in English. And when I write and read e-mails in 
English, and when we have meetings including those colleagues who do 
not speak Japanese, we use English.

16<J>: I see.

17<N>: So, it's pretty much everyday activity.

18<J>: I see.

19<J>: Now, we'll check some other useful expressions from today's 
skit.

20<J>: OK, the first expression is, "We have two important points to 
discuss. I would like to finish the meeting within one hour."

21<J>: That's right.

22<J>: Ninobe-san, how do you feel about the importance of 
expressing the time and the topic at the beginning of a meeting?

23<N>: I think it's very important to confirm topics and time 
allocation at the very beginning of the meeting.

24<J>: Uh-huh.

25<N>: Oftentimes we get together in the meeting room and we often 
forget why we are here.

26<J>: OK.

27<J>: The next one is, "You're both right. But our goal is ..."

28<J>: Yeah, Ninobe-san, it's important to include people, you know, 
to show consideration towards people within the meeting. How do you 
feel about  that? Do you do that in meetings that you lead?

29<N>: Uh-huh. I think one of the major objective(s) of meeting(s), 
any meeting is to really collect or input thoughts, opinions and 
ideas.

30<J>: Uh-huh.

31<N>: And I think it's important to engage every participant to 
feel comfortable to express their opinions. So confirming their 
ideas, opinions, thoughts  is very, very important to engage the 
participants.

32<J>: I see.

先日、ハワイ出身の日系4世の人が教室を手伝いに来てくれたので
すが、見た目はどこから見ても日本人。でも日本語は話せません。
街に出ると人は普通に日本語で話しかけてくるでしょう？どうするの？
と聞くと、そんな時は「困る」と言います。

また、英字新聞などを読んでいると、外国人旅行客などが英語で道を
尋ねてきたりするそうです。彼にとっては母国語の英語で受け答えし
てあげると、
Your English is very good!!!

と言われるそうです。そんなときは、

Thank you.
と答えるんだそうです。アッハッハ！！
