1) This time, the group observes that companies employ fewer 
employees to sift through data and information, leaving managers in 
danger of burning out with information gluts.

Shiga uses the full form "cannot." It could be because English is a 
second language for him, but it could be he really wants to stress 
the inability of people to process that much information.

3) You might notice that Tyson used the word "that" to refer back to 
knowledge workers or secretaries or company researchers. He could 
have said "who" also. Some people say if it's a person you are 
talking about, you must use "who," not "that," but for a long time, 
and certainly in regular conversation, people will use "that" when 
they are not referring to a specific person.

4) And he is probably referring to some of the automatic systems 
that collect data throughout a company, you know, employee work 
records, and time clocks, and things that are sold and what's not 
sold, and where and when and how and why there is so much 
information collected in the computers that needs to be analyzed.

5) So Kinkaid has kind of shifted the focus of the conversation from 
work and company data to rumors and things about the people who work 
there and  what they are doing and what's expected and what might 
come next.

6) new dimensions
If you are talking about "new dimensions," it usually means a 
different size, a different shape, it's becoming something new.

7) waking hours
"Waking hours" might be sort of a new phrase for many people. It 
refers to the time when you are not sleeping and it is related to 
awake and wake up.

8) squelch
"Squelch" is a verb that's often used together with rumors meaning 
"squish it down," "get rid of it," "stop it," "stamp it out."
