1) Shiga says concierge services are not common in Japan, but Tyson 
believes it's an important reason for Great Lakes being a great 
place to work.

2) driving point
Cortez talks about the "driving point." She could have said the 
motivation.

3) worked wonders
The phrase "worked wonders" is pretty common in English when 
something has changed very obviously for the better. A "wonder" is 
similar to a miracle. It's something you can't really understand. 
It's a little fascinating.

4) chores
"Chores" are things you have to do daily or they often refer to 
routine domestic tasks, you know, washing dishes, doing the laundry, 
dusting. In the U.S., a lot of people do their chore-type shopping 
on Saturdays, especially Saturday morning. That's probably one of 
the most crowded days for grocery shopping in the U.S. wherever you 
go. Many people only shop once a week and Saturday morning is the 
day.

5) those prices
Kinkaid talks about "those prices." I think she is referring back to 
tickets for the circus or maybe chartering a boat to go fishing, not 
just fishing from the shore.

6) novelty
A "novelty" is usually something that's a little different, a little 
new and usually rather attractive. Some gift shops sell novelties.

7) on-call
If you are "on-call" in the U.S., you are on duty. You are waiting 
in case you are needed. Usually if you are on-call, you don't have 
to stay in the office or in some specific work-related  place, but 
you do need to be available immediately.

8) come in handy
Something that "comes in handy" is convenient and useful and easy to 
use.

9) Sometimes it might be something that surprised you because you 
weren't expecting it to be so useful.

10) So, here, of course, Tyson has shifted from talking about the 
people who received the services to the organization that's 
providing the concierge service.

11) in my book
Tyson uses the phrase "in my book," which is another way to say "in 
my opinion."

12) You can also use the word "circus" to describe a situation 
that's a little bit out of control -- people are doing a little bit 
strange things and it's a little overwhelming.

13) Sometimes people say they are running errands. They are too busy 
to talk to you.
