5<J>: Shin, it's the last program we are going to have you as a
guest. I'm sad.

6<S>: Don't worry. I'm not going to evaporate. I'll be just an
e-mail away.

7<A & J>: [Laughter]

8<J>: Yeah, that's right. First, Shin, do you think that there is a
difference between how Americans and Japanese express their
feelings?

9<S>: I personally didn't see much difference between U.S. and
Japan. I think it just depends on person's style. But in general, I
have a feeling that there might be more expressions for feelings
such as "I'm excited about...," "I'm disappointed about...," "I'm
embarrassed...."

10<J>:Uh-huh.

11<S>: ... and so on.

12<J>: Shin, were there any expressions that you heard in the U.S.
that you thought were very unique?

13<S>: Umm... I think I often heard people say, "I have mixed
feelings."

14<J>: Uh-huh. When did you hear that?

15<S>: When supervisors have to make announcement of their staff
members' resignations. You know, of course, they want to celebrate
their departure for new challenges. But at the same time, the
company is going to lose precious person.

16<J>: So, they are happy for the person, but at the same time, they
are sad for themselves.

17<S>: Exactly, exactly.

18<J>: Yeah, I understand that.

19<J>: Uh-huh. That's right.

20<J>: That's right. Now, Shin, this is the last episode, can you
give some advice to listeners about what's the most important thing
to remember when doing business in English?

21<S>: Umm... in my opinion, ...

22<A & J>: Uh-huh.

23<S>: Although the cultures are different, we are all trying to
achieve the same goals in business.

24<J>: Uh-huh.

25<S>: It's just that our processes and social rules are different.
So languages are our way to break through these rules and achieve
our goals together.

26<J>: Uh-huh.

27<S>: So, I think English is our main tool for this.

28<S>: How's this?

29<J>: That's great!

30<J>: Thanks for your advice, Shin.

31<S>: You are welcome.
