1) laugh up one's sleeve / jaw drop
If you "laugh up your sleeve," you are secretly exalting or 
rejoicing. In any case, you are trying to hide your amusement. And 
it's often because you are amused at someone else's trouble or 
problem. In this case, it says "she was laughing up her sleeve" 
because she was watching her relatives' "jaws drop." When your "jaw 
drops," you are showing astonishment.

2) fortune / fortunate
Fine used... you've probably noticed Fine used the word "fortune" 
and the word "fortunate." They both come from the same source. 
Originally "fortune" meant only chance or luck, and that's been used 
in English for seven hundreds years or more.

Slowly the meaning expanded to also include the idea of wealth in 
the 16th century. People started using the word "fortune" to mean 
wealth, having a lot of money. And they think the development went 
from if you have good luck, if you have good fortune, you'll also 
have a lot of money, and so "fortune" meaning luck and "fortune" 
meaning wealth both developed from the same word.

3) penchant
"Penchant" is a noun that means inclination, but it's a narrower 
meaning. It's based on a liking for something. So, if you have a 
"penchant" for something, it's... you are tending towards it or 
leaning towards it because you like it. Inclination has a much wider 
meaning. It could be you are tending or leaning towards something 
for all kinds of reasons.

授業が終った後、そのまま事務所で眠り込んでしまったら、娘が「早く
帰ってらっしゃい！」と迎えにきました。

「はあ〜い」と後片付けをし、しおらしく帰ります。普通は親が子供に言
う言葉ではないかと……、私は子供によく叱られます。ダメ、ダメ母ちゃ
んですわ。
