  Kiss Me Goodbye

1) Today the spotlight goes on this song by Petula Clark. This is
"Kiss Me Goodbye" on Tidbits in English.

2) That was a part of one of my favorite songs by Petula Clark,
"Kiss Me Goodbye." We will listen to the song in its entirety at the
end of this program.

3) Let me read to you the lyrics for "Kiss Me Goodbye." You can find
the Japanese translation on page 73 in this month's textbook.

4) Petula Clark was born in Epsom England in 1932 and began to sing
at a very early age. She regularly performed for the English army,
and by the end of World War II in 1945, she had become Britain's
idol.

5) She became internationally well-known when her 1964 single
"Downtown" became a worldwide hit. "Kiss Me Goodbye" was released in 
1968 and also hit the charts across the globe.

6) That was a brief look at Petula Clark's bio here on Tidbits in

the United States use personal checks for everyday shopping.

9) A check book is a small booklet with one's name, address and bank
information printed on each check inside.

10) Today's Word Watcher phrase is "a blank check." Literally it
means a check with a signature but without the amount filled in.

11) It's unsafe to have a check without the amount because someone
can simply write in as much money as they want and take it to a bank
to cash or to a store and go on a shopping spree.

12) A blank check is used figuratively in everyday speech and it
means that a person is given unlimited freedom and control over
something. In other words, a great amount of trust is given to that
person.

13) For example: I think he makes a good manager but I'm not ready
to hand over a blank check to him just yet.

15) Wouldn't you like someone to write you a blank check? I would.

都内をふらふらとしていました。こうやって再来日とともに、連絡をくだ
