◇ Regular verbs: 規則動詞
- Most verbs follow the same past tense pattern
- add 'ed' to the infinitive form for statements.

ほとんどの動詞は、同じ過去形の形式を取る
- "ed" を規則動詞の原形につける。詳しい説明は、

● Irregular verbs: 不規則動詞
- Some verbs are not so easy to remember because
their endings are different - not regular .
A good dictionary will give you a list of these verbs.
There is no easy way to learn them.
They have to be memorised!
― いくらかの動詞は語尾の変化が異なる（規則的でない）ために、
覚えることは容易ではありません。良い辞書には、
不規則動詞表がついているでしょう。
簡単にそれらを学ぶ方法はありません。
（皆さんに）記憶してもらわなければいけません。

Chiho: What did you do last night?
昨晩何をしたの？
Masa: I went to the cinema and then had a drink
in the pub with Jean. And you?
映画に行って、それからジーンとパブで一杯やったんだ。
君は？
Chiho: I didn't go out. I decided to stay at home
and watch TV. I went to bed early.
外出しなかったわ。家にいて、テレビを観ることに決めたの。
早くに寝たわ。
◇ Explanation: 説明
The Simple Past Tense (or The Past Simple Tense)
in the above sentences is used to talk about things
which happened at a specific time in the past
- in this case 'last night'. Chiho doesn't want to know
what Masa is going to do this evening or what he usually does.
Her question 'What did you do last night?' is used to
ask about a specific time in the past.
Time expressions which are commonly used with this tense are
'last'(last month, last year etc) 'ago' (two weeks ago,
ages ago etc)
上の例での過去形は、私達が過去の特定の知られた（分かっている）時に
起こったことなどを話すとき−ここでは昨晩− に使います。
Chihoは、Masaが今晩何をするかということや、
彼がいつもは何をするかということについては知りたくないのです。
What did you do last night? という彼女の質問は、
過去の特定の時間について尋ねるために使われています。
◇ Examples: 例
Yuka: When did you buy those new shoes?
その新しい靴をいつ買ったの。
Masa: I got them last weekend.
And you've got a new handbag, haven't you?
先週末に買ったんだ。君は新しいハンドバッグを持っているでしょ。
Yuka: Yes. I bought it a couple of days ago.
Do you like it?
うん。２，３日前に買ったの。このバッグ好き？
◇ Examples: 例
Masa: Where did you have your hair cut?
どこで髪を切ったの。
Yuki: My mother cut it. She used to be a hairdresser!
母が切ったのよ。彼女は以前、美容師だったんだ。

Masa: Why did you decide to study in England?
どうしてイギリスで勉強することに決めたの。
Masako: I wanted to experience life in an
English-speaking country.
英語が話されている国での生活を経験してみたかったんだ。
