「止まれの標識」と「ストップサイン」 

日本でも、「とまれ」の標識が各所にありますが、
アメリカには 4-way Stop Sign で
交差点の四方向から来るすべての車が一旦停止する交差点が
数多くあります。

2-way Stop Sign もあり、
こちらは一方が優先道路でそれ以外の二方向から来る車が一点停止します。

4-way Stop Sign で完全に停止しないと、交通事故の可能性が高くなります。
一旦停止した車は、他の車が交差点に近づいても、
相手が止まることを前提に発進するからです。

Japan to arrest 3 anti-whaling activists　

TOKYO - Japanese police obtained arrest warrants Monday against three　
activists from the U.S.-based animal rights group Sea Shepherd for　
allegedly attacking Japanese whaling ships last year, a news report　
said.　

Tokyo District Court approved the arrest warrants within hours of a　
police request, Kyodo News Agency said. Neither the court nor the　
Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department could immediately confirm the　
report.

日本、３人の反捕鯨活動家を逮捕へ

東京−月曜日、日本の警察は逮捕状を入手した。アメリカを拠点とする動物保
護団体であるシーシェパードに所属する活動家３名に対する逮捕状である。
容疑は、日本の捕鯨船を昨年襲撃した疑いである。このように報道は伝えてい
る。

東京地裁は、警察の逮捕状要求の４時間後にそれを承認した。このように共同
通信社は伝えている。現時点、東京地裁も警視庁もこの報道に対して正式発表
していない。

南極海で日本の調査捕鯨に妨害活動を繰り返す反捕鯨団体「シー・シェパード」
（ＳＳ）の活動家に対し、警視庁が逮捕状を請求し、国際手配することを決め
たことで、日本政府は危険な妨害活動には厳しい態度で臨むことを国内外に示
した。しかし、活動拠点があるオーストラリアは捕鯨反対を明言しており、
身柄が引き渡されるかどうかの実効性は疑問だ。

日本の調査捕鯨関係者は、今回の警察当局の対応を評価している。
今回逮捕状を請求されたのは、米国人と英国人だが、日本が身柄引き渡し条約
を結んでいるのは、米国と韓国のみ。それ以外の国でも、通常、国際手配され
た容疑者は、潜伏が明らかになった場合は身柄拘束後、国外退去処分にして事
実上、日本に送還されるケースが多い。

同じような意味の言葉を重ねて使うことがよくあります。

「激流」のあらすじ

Gail is a professional at water rafting. She twigs every day, and she is in a
very good shape. She takes her family, one day, to a rafting trip down the
river, but she has no idea that the planed trip is about to become a nightmare.
Two escaping robbers with a handgun, meet the family in the way, and join them
to the trip. Only later the Gail realize that their new friends are dangerous
criminals, but it's too late. The two men force them to stay together, and to
keep cruising down the river. The family's life are risked not only by the two
men, but also by the river which becomes more stormy and wilder.

「激流」に関するトリビア

An exhausted Meryl Streep balked when director Curtis Hanson asked her to shoot
one more scene before filming finished for the end of the day, however, she
decided to attempt it. Swept off the raft, she was in real danger of drowning
before she was rescued. Returning upriver, she told a pale and shaking Hanson
that "in the future, when I say I can't do something, I think we should believe
me." Hanson hastily agreed.

Carrie Fisher was an uncredited script doctor on the film.

Meryl Streep did most of her own stunts.

The last of the three sign-language symbols written by the husband is the
symbol for "I Love You."

Continuity: When the family is entering the boat for the first time on

Miscellaneous: After Tom jumps off cliff into the river he coaxes the family
dog, a yellow lab named "Maggie", into jumping in after him. Throughout the
entire movie the dog is called "Maggie" and referred to as "girl" but when the
dog leaps from the cliff into the river, you can clearly see it's a male dog.
