健康リスクを見て見ぬふりする肥満の人々

2006年1月6日

肥満で、太りすぎの人々の4分の1が、体重を減らしたくなく、多くが健全なライフス
タイルによってもたらされる恩恵に気づいていないと、癌研究UKによる新しい調査が
明らかにしました。

調査した4000人の男女の半分が太りすぎか、肥満でした。しかし、肥満の人々の87
パーセントと太りすぎの人々の32パーセントが、自らの適正体重を知っていませんで
した。

肥満であるか、太りすぎであることは、癌のリスクを増大させます。しかし、体重
により危険な状態にある71パーセントの人々は癌との関係を知りませんでした。

OBESE PEOPLE TURN A BLIND EYE TO HEALTH RISKS
MORE THAN a quarter of obese and overweight people do not want to lose
weight and many more are unaware of the benefits brought by a healthy
lifestyle, a new survey by Cancer Research UK reveals.

More than half of the 4000 men and women surveyed were overweight or obese.
But 87 per cent of obese people and 32 per cent of overweight people failed
to identify their correct weight category.

Being obese or overweight increases cancer risk. But 71 per cent of those
at risk because of their weight did not know of the cancer connection.

進行卵巣ガンへの不十分に活用された治療が、生存率を大幅改善

2006年1月4日

ニューイングランド・ジャーナル・オブ・メディスンの1月5日号掲載の研究記事によ
ると、腫瘍切除に成功して、静脈内(IV)と腹腔内の化学療法を併用したIII期卵巣が
んの女性が、IV化学療法だけの女性より中間値で16ヶ月長く生存しました。

Underutilized Treatment for Advanced Ovarian Cancer Found to Significantly
Improve Survival

According to a study published in the January 5 issue of the New England
Journal of Medicine, women with Stage III ovarian cancer given a
combination of intravenous (IV) and intra-abdominal chemotherapy, following
the successful surgical removal of tumors, experienced a median survival
time 16 months longer than women who received IV chemotherapy alone.

三浦捷一氏死去／がん患者団体支援機構理事長

がん患者団体支援機構を発足させ、理事長に就任し、患者に役立つ
情報を提供する「日本がん情報センター」の設置などを提言した内
科医の三浦捷一氏が亡くなられました。
三浦さんはがん難民救済を目指し、患者団体のネットワーク化を進
め、昨年５月に「がん患者大集会」を大阪市で開き、実行委員会代
表を務めるなどご活躍されました。ご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。
