　currants and quince is the light golden 2004 Ermitage Cuvee de
　l'Oree. This is a fabulous wine, with blockbuster intensity and
　richness. These are the kinds of wines that may last 50-100
　years, but of course most readers will opt for earlier consumption.

　The awesome 1999 de l'Oree flirts with perfection. It is full-
　bodied, with an incredible bouquet of liquid minerals, licorice,
　honeysuckle, citrus, and a hint of tropical fruits. One-hundred
　percent new oak aging has been completely absorbed by the wine's
　fruit and glycerin. Made from exceedingly low yield of 12-15
　hectoliters per hectare, this is winemaking tour de force.
　However, readers should understand that these are often unusual
　wines to drink because they tend to show exceptionally well
　for 4-5 years after bottling, then close up until about age 12.
　They can last for 4-5 decades.
　Anticipated maturity: mow-2006; 2012-2050.

　It is no secret that I adore Chapoutier's luxury cuvee of
　white Hermitage called Cuvee L'Oree. Made from 90 years old
　vines and microscopic yields of 10-12 hectoliters per hectare,
　these wines flirt with perfection in top vintages. Both 1996
　and 1997 are compelling white Hermirages. Made from 100% Marsanne,
　they are as rich and multidimensional as the fullest, most
　massive montrachet money can buy. They are unctuously textured,
　yet extraordinarily and beautifully balanced. I suspect they
　will drink well in life, and then shut down for a few years.
　They should last for 4-5 decades. The 1997 is a huge, chewy,
　multidimensional wine with spectacular concentration and
　richness. Notes of white flowers, honey, minerals, and peaches
　are present in abundant quantities. In short, these wines must
　be tasted to be believed.

　Even better, if that is possible, is the 2004 Pingus. It comes
　from 100% estate vineyards, biodynamically farmed. It, too, is
　100% Tempranillo and is aged 18 months in new French oak. It
　offers more of everything from its splendid nose of cedar,
　smoke, charcoal, blackberry, and blueberry to its thick, super-
　concentrated, and layered mid-palate. The tannins are totally
　concealed and the pure finish is remarkably long. The wine
　deserves at least a decade of cellaring and should drink beautifully
　for 25 years thereafter.
